As we have previously seen, within Central American nagualism there arose certain groups of shamans who focused their interest on the existing possibilities beyond ordinary perception. They reached a turning point the moment that they learned to see – at least for short periods of time – all beings as cocoons of energy and the world as an indescribable flow. By means of meticulous observation for generations, they came to the conclusion that everything was made of awareness. According to their appraisals, the cocoons, so characteristic of living entities, functioned as containers capable of enclosing and interpreting a small portion of the infinite universal awareness.
The energy level (as it is called in perhaps in a not entirely-correct way in this scope) is composed of filaments of a seemingly never-ending length and number. The groupings and permutations of this substance that fills everything are what create spacetime and the beings and objects contained within it. When we speak here of filaments, it is simply a way of expressing the inexpressible; because of the sensation that they give, rather than because they really are this way. If they were indeed filaments then they would be long, and thus they should have at least one spatial dimension. Yet the filaments are what create the dimensions: they constitute a more fundamental level than spacetime itself, which, in turn, is made of matter and energy. It is for this very reason that I highlighted the inaccuracy of describing these filaments as ‘energy’, given that they are something more primordial than what we know as energy. They are indescribable, but we, as good humans, describe the impossible and even relate what cannot be explained. This constitutes part of our virtues and also, at times, one of our biggest faults. Nevertheless, when the shamans saw that these flows were grouped into bands (also a way of speaking), it seemed to them that they were distributed from a central point, which they called the Spirit. We beings seem to be cells of this superstructure.
Each living individual creates a concrete, finite and linear perceptual distillation, which somehow serves and complements the non-linearity and infinity of the Spirit. As has previously been stated, individual perception occurs when a portion of the energy bands that are enclosed within the cocoon are aligned with the outer bands, which are in fact the same thing. The alignment causes the bands involved to drastically intensify their brightness in the same place that they enter the luminous cocoon. That special glow is consciousness. However, it is only possible to align the outer bands with the inner ones in a specific place: the subtle organ called the assemblage point. This becomes like a kind of porthole, whose particular configuration, size and position in the cocoon determine both the perception of what world we perceive and the way in which we perceive it. The world is the effect created by the passage of the outer bands through the assemblage point on their way to the interior of the luminous cocoon. In fact, the outer bands enter the luminous cocoon in all directions: the cocoon itself is no more than a grouping of those bands attached by a special energy called the binding force. However, only the bands that pass through the assemblage point are highlighted, thus generating both the consciousness of being one individual and of the universe which is perceived at a particular moment. The organs of the senses and the physical body itself are also a consequence of the organization and position of the assemblage point in the cocoon. The ordinary perceptual modality, in whose perspective the world is composed of objects, makes it very difficult to believe that something like this is possible, since from the point of view of our day-to-day experience, consciousness seems to be a product of the brain, rather than the opposite. Nevertheless, there exists at least one theory within modern physics that postulates principles which could be compatible with the existence of the assemblage point; The Holographic Principle is part of the Superstring Theory and explains how the universe in which we live could be an illusion resulting from a holographic projection, originating from structures similar to walls or boundaries where the information would be truly encoded. As I have previously said, the assemblage point is located on the surface of the luminous cocoon; only the fibers of infinity that pass through it can be perceived, perception is what causes the emergence of reality, which in turn is a personal and/or collective interpretation generated by the concrete way in which the assemblage point groups, highlights or eliminates the intensity in the bands that pass and are aligned by it. Many of the new-age currents affirm that we create reality. This is a biased interpretation, the result of the obsessive compulsion of the human ego to situate itself constantly at the center of the world. It is perception that creates reality, not “us".
In a human being, the assemblage point is approximately the size of a fist, and a simple "normal" cocoon is about four meters tall by a little more than two meters in width and depth. In the game of existence, both the Spirit and the beings incessantly seek to expand the brilliance of consciousness to the totality of their luminous cocoons, in a process of endless evolution. To extend the consciousness of being to the whole cocoon would be to transform the entire cocoon into an assemblage point. To achieve this is to literally attain Enlightenment. In a normal evolution, the living being develops, but Enlightenment is a metamorphosis, a complete change of perceptual and cognitive model that fully transforms the being who experiences it. This is how one has the opportunity to die in an alternative way, to leave the current existential sphere (if one has managed to accumulate during life sufficient energy of escape) and to be reborn, conserving individuality, but in a new form, in a new world, in a new reality, in universes beyond what is comprehensible to us.
Perception is part of the very structure of existence and of evolution.
